Cell Phones For Soldiers

Two teenagers sprang to action when they learned about an $8,000 bill that had been run up by a soldier and his family as they were trying to communicate while he was in Iraq. You can now donate your old cell phone to them to ensure that soldiers can call home for free. They recycle the cell phones through a company that pays them enough to purchase about an hour of talk time for each phone. They have now sent more than 400,000 phone cards overseas. How inspiring!

It won't cost you one cent to donate! You can visit their website at www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com to get a pre-paid postage label or you can also locate a drop off site close to your home. It's that easy! So clean out that junk drawer and send in your old cell phones!

Thanks to LaTasha for letting me know about this! :)

Email Forwards

I've been meaning to write about this for quite a while and I kept forgetting to do it. I'll admit that sometimes I do like getting forwards - some are really cute and funny or have useful information. So not all email forwards are bad.

But the ones I despise are the ones that have something at the end about the bad things that will happen if you do not forward it to X number of people. What a pathetic attempt to make sure the email gets forwarded! And more often than not, those forwards are the ones with false information or a completely useless story.

When my husband was deployed, it always seemed like those types of forwards increased. I would always get the ones that said "If you don't forward this to X people, something bad will happen to someone you love" or "You'll get a knock on the door with bad news". What a horrible thing to send to anyone but especially to a military wife who has a husband deployed in a war zone! I rarely forwarded these emails (and if I did, I deleted the "send this on to..." message) and eventually got to the point that I didn't even open them at all so I wouldn't see the "dire warning".

I know it seems stupid and yes, we all know that nothing will happen because you did or didn't forward an email on to 15 other people. But please don't add stress to a military spouse who is already dealing with more than any person should have to with these ridiculous forwards containing these 'if you don't do this, this will happen' messages. Let it stop with YOU and use the delete button.

Writer's Strike & "Army Wives"

I was browsing the Loving a Soldier blog today and literally said "nooooo" as I read one of the entries. It appears that the writer's strike is keeping Lifetime's hit series, "Army Wives", from beginning filming for the second season. Hopefully they will all be able to come to an agreement so that the filming can begin soon and we won't have to wait even longer for next season's episodes!

Although, it does seem odd that with the way last season ended that a script hasn't even been written for the first episode of the new season. I guess we can feel better that we're not the only ones who don't know how it will all play out! :)

I Love My Friends!

One thing is for sure and that is you will make some amazing friendships throughout your journey in the Army lifestyle. It's been an exhausting few days with some issues with the message board and just generally feeling overwhelmed.

I was running around the house with the dogs when I heard my cell phone buzzing. I missed the call but checked voicemail and heard: "Hi, I just wanted to let you know I left a delivery on your porch." So I rushed downstairs and this is what I found:

Flowershannah

Aren't they beautiful? They are from my very good friend, Hannah, on the message board. I was lucky enough to get to meet her in person in Nashville and she is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. She included the nicest note with the arrangement and it was just what I needed to make my day better!

Thank you Hannah!!

Have Something To Confess?

Or maybe you just want to let off some steam? Visit True Military Wives Confessions. I was alerted to this website a while back when it was in the beginning stages but I had to have a media password to log into it so I wasn't sure I could share!

It's now open to the public and there are some very interesting "confessions". Perhaps even more interesting are the comments left behind by those who read the comments. I'm not too sure I'm brave enough to confess even if it is anonymous! I couldn't handle the criticism! ;)

Have fun!
