Prince Harry Serving in Afghanistan

First, I'm completely amazed that the media in Britain agreed to keep this under wraps and has done so for so long. What I'm completely not impressed with is the fact that the U.S. based Drudge Report "leaked" the information to the public.

This blackout on reporting was not put into place as some game. It was to protect not only Prince Harry but every other military member who is serving with him or in his vicinity. It is utterly ridiculous that the information was released when it was made clear that it was for the safety of all of those who were involved. It is amazing what some people deem as newsworthy just so they can make a buck.

To say that this lack of integrity and ethics infuriates me is an exteme understatement. Thankfully, they are bringing Prince Harry back to Britain to hopefully avoid any further breach of his safety and the safety of those who serve with him. It's sad that he was not allowed to complete his service in Afghanistan (as he obviously felt a strong calling towards it) because the Drudge Report wanted to get the scoop.

Bear Hugs for U.S. Soldiers

February 13, 2008

ESTERO, Florida (USA) -- February 13, 2008 -- Beginning this Memorial Day, 210,000 red, white and blue teddy bears inscribed with “We Support and Hug You” will be delivered to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  An additional 90,000 teddy bears will be distributed to soldiers recuperating in VA hospitals across America.

The effort, in large part, is due to the handiwork of retired businessman David Hamblett and his wife P.J.  The couple have committed to the manufacture and delivery of the 300,000 plush, 5” teddy bears.  The nonpartisan effort is aimed at recognizing our troops for their bravery and personal sacrifice.

The polyester bears come in navy blue with white stitched buttons and a bowtie.  Stitched in red on each bear’s chest are the words, “We Support and Hug You”.  Each bear will then be secured in a mesh bag with a red ribbon drawstring.  In addition to the stuffed bears, each soldier will also receive a thank-you note and a Veteran’s Advantage membership card.

Through donations at their website, the Hambletts also expect to raise $1 million for Operation Gratitude (www.operationgratitude.com ) and Operation: Care and Comfort (www.operationcareandcomfort.com ), both recognized 501(c)(3) charities.

This grass roots effort gives individuals the ability to sponsor a special “Bear Hug” gift pack for just $1.  Additional giving levels are available.
